In honor of our veterans
Gerald M. Olson is the honored veteran for this month. Gerald entered the service June 29, 1963. He went to Great Lakes, Ill., for basic training, then entered into the Naval training center. Later, he was stationed at NAAS Saufley Field.
Gerald served four years in the service. He was on active duty for two years and then inactive duty for two years on the USS (CVA-61) Ranger starting in October of 1965. His title in the service was Airman E3 and Firefighter Ranger.
Gerald stated that it was a great experience being in the service, but was also glad to come back home. He was very proud to serve his country.
Gerald was discharged June 28, 1967. He came home and worked different jobs around the Lake Mills area. His mother is Mary Swenson.
