Kiester Days are here

Kiester Days begins Thursday, June 21, with a free community meal at the Kee Town and Country Centre (KTCC) and will continue through Sunday, June 24. The Kiester Days celebration offers all who attend a chance for some good summertime fun.
The community meal is being hosted by the Farmers Coop Association of Forest City, Leland and Kiester from 5-7 p.m.
The Kee Theatre will present a free movie, Disney’s “Enchanted” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Kiester Historical Society Museum will be open from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday and 3:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday. The museum is located within the KTCC. A Machinery Hill will be located at the Kiester Implement lot at Center and 5th Street beginning at 5 p.m. All implements are welcome, both antique and newer. Those wanting to show their implements can bring their equipment to the lot prior to 5 p.m. Friday. The Machinery Hill will continue on Saturday. The implements may also take part in the parade at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Boy Scouts will offer a pork chop feed at the Kiester Legion from 5-7 p.m. The Boy Scout pork chop feed replaces the Kiester Lions Club pork feed. A singles cribbage tournament begins at 7 p.m. at the Legion and a 8:30 p.m. Forever Berma’s will feature the live music of “The Plus Nine Band,” playing classic and modern country music.
A co-ed volleyball tournament begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Kiester City Park. Also beginning at 9 a.m. is a Flea Market held in front of the KTCC. The fifth annual Glen Fure Memorial Horseshoe Tournament begins at 10 a.m., also at the park under the water tower.
Other activities held at the park include a bounce house, the Boy Scouts and Venture food stand, face painting and hair coloring. Nick Semple returns with his Onion Ring Stand and the Car and Truck Show will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Main Street next to the park. First and second place trophies will be given in five classes: best GM, best Ford, best Mopar, best Truck, best Street Rod. A participants’ Choice Award will be named and door prizes will be given out to participants.
Forever Berma’s and the Kee Kafe will have food specials throughout the day on Saturday.
At 3 p.m. the Big Parade and Kiddie/Pet Parade will begin with a shotgun start. The Kiddie/Pet Parade will line up at the north end of the park and will go south on Main St. ending at the Kiester Market. The Big Parade lines up on Front St. at 2:30 p.m. There is no entry fee to enter and those taking part in the parade will be directed by a parade official as to where to line up.
Horse and carriage rides will be given by Jake Jacobson following the parade. A bean bag tournament will be held in front of Forever Berma’s beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday’s festivities end at the Kiester Legion with their monthly steak and hamburger fry served from 5-8 p.m. Then head out to the street alongside the Legion for their street dance featuring “Somethin’ Country,” based out of Scarville.
On Sunday, an omelet breakfast will be held at the Kiester Legion from 7 a.m.-12 p.m. Proceeds from the breakfast will go to the United South Central Legion Baseball team. The celebration concludes with a community church service at the Kee Theatre beginning at 10 a.m. “SongQuest” will lead the service and will be assisted by Pastor Katie Pals.
Primitive camping is available on the west and north lawns of the Kee Town and Country Centre. Those wanting to reserve a camping space should contact Rick Goemann at 507-294-3458.
