Bert Allen Songstad

October 22, 1944 – May 10, 2024

Bert Allen Songstad, 79, peacefully passed away after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, May 10, 2024, with the love of his life by his side.
Although Bert’s earthly journey ended, it marked the commencement of his eternal rest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Bert exemplified unwavering love and dedication as a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. Extending his kindness to family, friends, and even strangers. His absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Born Oct. 22, 1944, to Agnes (Dale) and Bertin Songstad in rural Kiester, Minn., Bert’s life was rooted in faith, being baptized and confirmed at the Scarville Synod Church. He graduated from Kiester High School in 1962, later serving in the Air Force starting in 1968. It was during this time that he met Marilyn (Sundsvold), his soulmate, whom he married Jan. 18, 1971, in Misawa, Japan.
Following the Air Force, Bert returned to the family farm and embarked on a career as a skilled carpenter, leaving his mark on numerous homes and projects.
In 1991, drawn to the warmth of Arizona, he relocated, continuing his  craftsmanship as a contractor. His jovial nature shone through, often jesting about “saving his family” from the cold by moving south, reserving complaints about cold weather for anything below 70 degrees.
Retiring in 2013, Bert remained active, relishing time with his grandchildren and discovering a newfound joy in crafting birthday cakes for them. His generous spirit extended beyond family, as he dedicated himself to helping others and serving his church community, filling his days with purpose until the very end.
Bert is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn; their three sons: Michael, Robert (Denise), Steven (Kathryn); and daughter, Lana (Kevin) Walton; along with brother, Dale (Mary) Songstad; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Bertin; and siblings: Carroll Morse, Don Morse, Jean Evans, and Camilla Hauge.
