Betty M. Peterson Fosness
Betty M. Peterson, 90, Lake Mills, passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021 at the Lake Mills Care Center.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Schott Funeral Homes-Mittelstadt Chapel, Lake Mills, with Mr. Kermit Singelstad officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Immediately following her service, a luncheon will take place at Ole’s Office, Lake Mills. Burial to follow in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
Betty (Gooden) Peterson was born June 3, 1931 to Ollie and Esther (McGill) Gooden in rural Alden, Minn. She attended country school and graduated from Alden High School in 1949.
On Sept. 18, 1949 Betty was united in marriage with Roger D. Peterson at the Methodist Church in Alden. To this union they were blessed with one daughter, two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
Betty and Roger farmed west of Lake Mills for 16 years before moving west of Northwood in 1966 and continued farming until retirement in 1990.
Betty and Roger enjoyed dancing, traveling the U.S., delivering Winnebagos, fishing trips in Canada, and wintering in San Juan, Texas, until Roger’s passing in August of 1994.
In April of 1997, Betty married Harland Fosness. They enjoyed retirement together by traveling abroad, dancing, and enjoying their families. They wintered in Mission, Texas and remained on Betty’s farm in Northwood, until moving to Lake Mills in 2007. Harland passed away in May of 2014.
Betty loved a good bargain and having lively conversations over coffee. She loved gardening, entertaining, and always being on the go. Of all of Betty’s titles through her life, her favorite was being GG.
Betty is survived by her daughter, LaDonna (Harvey) Rognes, Lake Mills; granddaughters: Beth Nyguard, Waukee; and Kelly (Lee) Charlson, St. Charles, Ill.; great-grandchildren: Nick Nyguard, Natalie Nyguard, Harper Charlson, Sylvie Charlson and Clayton Charlson; four stepchildren and their families: Bonnie Johnson, Jon (Bev) Fosness, Colleen Smith and Diane (Jim) Gillard; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husbands: Roger and Harland; parents, Ollie and Esther; four brothers: Orville, Don, Ollie and Robert Gooden; two sisters-in-law: Mescal and Marian; and her grandson-in-law, Chris Nyguard.
