Janet G. Cavett

May 12, 1939 – March 17, 2020

Janet G. Cavett, 80, Lake Mills, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at her home surrounded by family. In accordance with the CDC recommendations, her family will be having a private service at Mittelstadt Funeral Home with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Burial will be in Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. A public memorial service for Janet is tentatively planned for Saturday, June 27, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills.
Janet Gwendolyn (Olien) Cavett was born May 12, 1939, to Arnold and Hilma (Hovland) Olien in Albert Lea, Minn. She was baptized at Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Scarville, June 11, 1939. She attended rural country school and graduated from Kiester High School in Kiester, Minn., in 1957.
On June 28, 1960, Janet was married to Gordon Cavett at Bethel Lutheran Church. They made their home in Lake Mills. Janet and Gordon were blessed with five children, which eventually made them proud grandparents to 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Janet was a seamstress and housewife. She liked to crochet, mow their lawn, go for golf cart rides, cook for her husband, and she took great pride in her geraniums every year. Through the years, in addition to caring for her family and home, Janet had worked at Deluxe Products, the Lake Mills Care Center, and at Byerly Foods International.
She was the most loving wife, mother, and grandmother, whose family and faith meant the most to her. Janet enjoyed her 80th birthday party last year and was anticipating the celebration that was to come this June for their 60th wedding anniversary.
Janet will be greatly missed by her family including her husband, Gordon; four children: Diane (Bruce) Burdick, Lake Mills; Judy (David) Eidness, Lake Mills; Debra (Arlen) Tweed, Underwood; and Dawn (Jim) Olson,Lake Mills; 10 grandchildren: Tyler (Melanie) Burdick, Thomas Burdick, Stephanie Eidness, Courtney (Mike) Bloomingdale, Katlyn (fiancé Gregg Erickson) Eidness, Rachelle Tweed, Adam Tweed, Conner Tweed, Bryon Olson (Brandi Land and her son, Nathaniel Land), and Jacob Olson; and great-grandchildren: Kinzie and Cooper Burdick; and Carter Bloomingdale; three brothers: Roger Olien, Ronald (Karen) Olien and David (Penny) Olien; a sister, Marjorie (William) Watts; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jim in 2001; a brother, Raymond; and two nephews, Daniel and Ian.
