Roger A. Bolstad

Roger A. Bolstad, 86, Lake Mills, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021 at the Patty Elwood Care Center, Cresco. A public graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 23, at Salem Memorial Cemetery, with Rev. Joel Guttormson officiating. Although no immediate family is able to be present, the public is still encouraged to attend. In lieu of flowers, any memorials may be directed to the Winnebago County Conservation Board, Forest City, for the purchase of land.
Roger Ardell Bolstad was born on July 23, 1935 in Albert Lea, Minn., to parents Harry and Sarah (Rasmusson) Bolstad.  After graduation, Roger continued his education from Luther College, and later received his master’s degree from Iowa State University in 1962.  
On Sept. 21, 1957, Roger was united in marriage to Mavis L. (Knudtson) in Scarville, and to this union, two children were born: Kathy and Randy.
He was employed as a Wildlife Biologist, where his last job was working for the Federal Bureau of Land Management from 1993 until his retirement. Roger spent time living in Lakeview, Ore., for a couple years, as well as Fairbanks, Alaska, for 27 years, before returning to Lake Mills in 1996.  As a wildlife biologist, Roger’s favorite moments were spent in nature.  Hunting and fishing were favorite hobbies of his.
Roger was a member at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills.  He was also a previous member of the Chamber of Commerce in Fairbanks, Alaska, as well as the Alaska and Iowa Fly Fishing Associations.
Surviving members of his family include his children: Kathy (Herbert) Sherman, Prescott, Ariz.; and Randy (Patricia) Bolstad, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren: Kara, Ryan, Joshua, and Tabitha; four great-grandchildren; as well as extended relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Bolstad; both parents, Harry and Sarah Bolstad; and a sister, Betty Rake.
